Ia, Santorini

The sky is blue, so I'm heading into Ia today (sometimes spelled Oia, even though it's pronounced EE-ah). Yesterday's awesome little walk through Fira was great, but I wanted to ensure my Ia day was a cloudless, sunny one. Chi-ching, today's the day!

This beautiful cliffside village is the result of a community effort in reconstruction after the 1956 earthquake. Ia and Fira were both devastated, and it just goes to show what can happen when people put their creative talents together. This is truly one of the most breathtaking sights I've ever seen, and probably the first time I've stood in complete awe of man-made creations.

The old windmill on the right has been converted into an upscale hotel.

This photo doesn't even look REAL !

Puh-leeze! This little guy wanted food, but judging from his beautiful coat, he wasn't going hungry. I could have taken him home, he was so sweet.

Check out that water!  Seriously!

This was my spot to watch the sun slowly sink over Ia. Couldn't have picked a better spot!

Perched up against the castle walls watching the sunset with thousands of people...

What a beautiful day -- but man, was it cold this evening! The temperature went down to 10 degrees above freezing just before sunset, and on top of that, a cold wind was blowing the whole time.  Totally worth it!
